ODIHR’s Tolerance and Non-Discrimination Department is organizing a workshop for trainers of imams and community leaders on responding to hate crimes against Muslims.
The event aims to equip participants with the necessary tools to deliver their own training courses and is designed to be learner-oriented, interactive and practical.
After the programme, the participants will be able to deliver training courses that enable imams and community activists to:
- recognize and understand the dynamics of anti-Muslim hate crimes and their impact on victims;
- gain and put into practice skills to monitor, respond to and prevent hate crimes;
- increase awareness among Muslim communities of hate crime.
To date, ODIHR has held five training seminars for civil society on hate crimes against Muslims. These included a training of imams which took place in Bulgaria on 12 September 2012. Following this training, ODIHR has received several requests to support imams and community leaders across the OSCE region in increasing awareness among Muslim communities of hate crime.
