OSCE Mission to Montenegro condemns attack on journalists in Pljevlja

PODGORICA, 5 October 2012 – The Acting Head of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro, Waldemar Figaj, today condemned the assault on two newspaper journalists in the town of Pljevlja.

Goran Malidzan of Vijesti and Bozidar Jelovac of Dan were attacked yesterday evening as they left an election campaign rally, which they had been reporting on.

“Such attacks on the media represent an assault on media freedom and gives rise to concern about the security environment in which journalists in Montenegro must work,” said Figaj. “I note the prompt and professional intervention of the police and prosecutor and urge the competent authorities to duly investigate this case and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
