OSCE Mission to Montenegro supports two-day training course on gender equality for Municipal Gender Focal Points
The principles of anti-discrimination, standards in gender equality, the relevant legal framework, gender-sensitive language, and the portrayal of women in the media were among the topics of a two-day training course supported by the OSCE Mission to Montenegro held for Municipal Gender Focal Points from 12 municipalities, which concluded on 30 September 2016 in Podgorica.
The training course was organized for representatives of municipalities, which had signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the Mission and the Human and Minority Rights Ministry in 2015.
They discussed various obstacles and challenges in achieving gender equality at the local level, the international standards and best practices, as well as mechanisms that could improve gender equality. They also explored the basics of gender mainstreaming in different areas of public and political life.
Opening the event, Head of the Democratization Programme at the OSCE Mission Lia Magnaguagno said gender equality and gender mainstreaming have gained momentum in Montenegro and are set to pick up pace in the years to come. “However, I must emphasize that both globally and locally new challenges to the gender are unfolding and we must never stop pushing for the positive changes, always making sure that we are building on previous successes.”
The training course was organized by the OSCE Mission in co-operation with the Gender Department of the Human and Minority Rights Ministry, and is a part of the Mission’s project to strengthening the gender mainstreaming process in the country.
