OSCE Mission to hold news conference to announce campaign against gender violence in Moldova
CHISINAU, 22 November 2006 - The annual campaign "16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence" will be launched tomorrow at a news conference hosted by the OSCE Mission to Moldova.
This year, the campaign will run under the motto 'Celebrate 16 Years of 16 Days: Advance Human Rights - End Violence Against Women'.
These international campaigns have been taking place since 1991 between 25 November, the International Day Against Violence Against Women, and 10 December, International Human Rights Day. They aim to show that violence against women is a violation of human rights. In Moldova such campaigns have been conducted since 2000.
This year's event will be jointly organized by Winrock International, Gender-Centru, the American Bar Association's Central Europe and Eurasia Legal Initiative, Amnesty International and the Moldovan Ministry for Health and Social Protection with the financial support from the OSCE Mission to Moldova, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights and Soros Moldova.
Media representatives are invited to a news conference at 11.00 on Thursday, 23 November, at the OSCE Mission to Moldova, str. Mitropolit Dosoftei 108, Chisinau.
