Training course on implementing international legal assistance in civil matters organized by the OSCE Mission to Montenegro
PODGORICA, 28 November 2017 - A two-day training course for 35 civil law judges on the implementation of international legal assistance in civil matters was organized by the OSCE Mission to Montenegro in co-operation with the country’s Judiciary Training Centre was held on 27 and 28 November 2017 in Podgorica.
The course provided civil law judges an opportunity to exchange experiences on practical problems encountered in adjudicating cases.
“The Centre’s long-standing partnership with the OSCE Mission, and the courses for the enhancement of the judiciary held with their support are very important,” said the President of the Steering Committee of the Judicial Training Centre, Senka Danilović. “The enhancement of the mutual legal assistance in civil matters is a priority recognized by the Ministry of Justice, all in an effort to improve our work on a daily basis.”
The OSCE Mission to Montenegro Rule of Law and Human Rights Programme Manager, Robert Kucharski, reaffirmed the importance of international co-operation also in the area of civil law as an important element also in meeting rule of law commitments.
Participants had the opportunity to discuss with an expert from the University of Montenegro and expert judges from the High Court in Podgorica on topics including civil cases based on foreign elements, confirmation and execution of foreign court verdicts, EU regulation regarding the conflict of laws applicable to civil disputes, and the International Convention on the Abduction of a Child.
The topics covered by the annual training programme were decided upon in accordance with requests submitted by judges and courts. The course is part of the Mission’s project to support the government’s judicial reform process
