OSCE-supported roundtable discussion on co-operation between public service broadcaster Radio Television of Montenegro and the Government of Montenegro
PODGORICA, 19 September 2017 – The contract of co-operation, which is being developed between Radio-Television of Montenegro and the Government of Montenegro with respect to public services, was the focus of yesterday's roundtable discussion organized by OSCE Mission to Montenegro, in co-operation with Radio-Television Montenegro (PBS RTCG).
“It is the hope of the OSCE that the new system, with the contract on providing public services, will contribute to better fulfilment of the role of the PBS and better service to the public,” said Head of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro Maryse Daviet.
Representatives of the Montenegrin Government, Parliament, relevant media institutions, the management of the Public Service Broadcaster and its Council, representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro, civil society, media and the diplomatic community discussed the RTCG’s challenges in drafting the co-operation contract and the objectives of the same, fully recognizing importance of public enrolment.
Janko Ljumović, the Minister of Culture of Montenegro, stated that public participation is essential for ensuring the transparency of long-term financial and content planning. “In the process of creating this document, the Public Service Broadcaster will try to accomplish its full function – which is to be established by public, financed by public and fully independent,” said Ljumović.
Public discussion on the contract of co-operation will begin on 25 September, and will last for 45 days.
