OSCE Mission to Montenegro trains State Election Commission on gender equality
The OSCE Mission to Montenegro organized a two-day workshop on gender equality for some 15 members and staff of the State Election Commission on 6 and 7 July 2017 in Podgorica.
Participants shared their views and opinions on gender equality and gender mainstreaming in their daily work, with special focus on the participation of women in the election process and political life, as well as how to introduce elements of gender equality into the work of the State Election Commission.
In his opening remarks, the President of the State Election Commission, Budimir Šaranović, emphasized the importance of the long-standing partnership with the OSCE Mission, adding: “I express my gratitude for the support and expertise provided by the OSCE, following the Memorandum of Understanding we have signed."
The Head of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro, Maryse Daviet, highlighted the Mission’s efforts in supporting the gender mainstreaming process in Montenegrin institutions, at both the national and local levels.
"As a partner of the State Election Commission, the Mission is very pleased to provide assistance,” she said. “The importance of addressing gender equality is underestimated. As you know, among the priority recommendations of the final report of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights’ election observation mission was the need for a greater balance between women and men in the political life of the country. Everyone present today can be part of making this important change happen."
This event is part of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro’s project on providing technical assistance to the country’s State Election Commission.
