Tolerance and non-discrimination
The Mission’s activities include enhancing mechanisms for preventing and effectively tackling discrimination by evaluating the adherence of national legislation to international standards and actively advocating for changing and amending relevant legislation. It also works on strengthening the civil society’s capacity to actively participate in prevention and protection from discrimination by providing tailor-made training courses and undertaking an advisory role. A special focus is put on enhancing the capacities of the judiciary to apply international human rights standards and harmonise practices within Bosnia and Herzegovina with the European Court of Human Rights case law.
The development of an effective, non-discriminatory educational system as an essential tool for reconciliation is at the core of the Mission’s mandate. The Mission seeks to create a culture of tolerance and respect for diversity in schools through developing and institutionalizing the principle of access for all children, and their inclusion within the cultural, policy and practical dimensions of all schools. In addition, the Mission’s efforts aim to increase awareness and improve status of socially vulnerable children in education due to the special emphasis on human rights, non-discrimination and engagement on promotion of inclusiveness.
