A former French Minister of Justice and a former Judge of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan presented two country study cases. A representative from the International Secretariat of Amnesty International offered a detailed overview of world-wide trends on the abolition of capital punishment. State officials and civil society representatives discussed international standards and best practices on the issue of abolition of the death penalty as well as perspectives for laying the grounds for a possible moratorium.
