In 2010 the OSCE Office in Minsk is developing follow-up activities with the State Border Guard Committee of Belarus. Among its priorities is capacity-building assistance in various areas of expertise.
Project on development of a system for recording and analysis of illegal activities across the state border
In 2009 the OSCE Office in Minsk continued implementation of the project "Development of a System for Recording and Analysis of Illegal Activities Across the State Border of the Republic of Belarus". The goal of the project was to assist Belarus in developing its potential in providing proper border security and management as well as in the prevention of organized criminal activities.
A three-day seminar on risk analysis for 20 representatives of the State Border Guard Committee responsible for risk analysis on local and regional levels was conducted by a Finnish Border Guard risk analysis expert in Minsk in February 2009. The seminar was attended by high-level risk analysis experts from the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
The Office also assisted the State Border Security Committee in organizing the International Conference of the Working Group for Heads of State Border Security Bodies on 28 September - 1 October 2009 in Minsk. Furthermore, in 2009 the Office supported participation of Belarusian border security officers at training seminars for senior border officials at the OSCE Border Management Staff College in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
The OSCE Office in Minsk is co-ordinating its border related activities in Belarus with other international stakeholders active in providing assistance to border security and management agencies in Belarus, including UNDP, EC Delegation, IOM and UNHCR.
