OSCE to train Kosovo Police on protection of cultural and religious heritage

PRISHTINË/PRIŠTINA, 18 June 2013 – The OSCE Mission will organize tomorrow a first training session for the members of the newly established Kosovo Police unit responsible for the protection of cultural and religious heritage sites in the Prishtinë/Priština region.

In eight sessions across Kosovo some 170 police officers will be trained on the legal framework governing cultural and religious sites, new responsibilities for the police and communication approaches with the public and clergy.

Media representatives are invited to cover part of the training session on Wednesday, 19 June 2013, starting at 14:30 hrs at Hotel Emerald in Prishtinë/Priština. Acting Head of the OSCE’s Department of Security and Public Safety Ibrahim Gultekin, Lieutenant Colonel Neshat Flugaj, from the Police, and Priest Stevo Mitrić from the Serbian Orthodox Church will be available for statements at 15:15 hrs.
