OSCE Chairman sends special envoy to Georgia

MADRID, 10 November 2007 - The OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos, sent his Special Envoy, Josep Borrell Fontelles, to Georgia for talks with government and opposition leaders.

"I welcome President Mikheil Saakashvili's decision to call an early presidential election. This should help to reduce tensions," said Minister Moratinos. "I have asked my Special Envoy to listen and speak to all sides during his visit to Tbilisi and to call for a peaceful and democratic dialogue and the lifting of the state of emergency".
