OSCE-supported gender centre for secondary school teachers opens in Dushanbe

DUSHANBE, 21 November 2006 - An OSCE-supported resource centre that will provide secondary school teachers with information and advice on gender issues and ways to raise gender awareness opened today in Dushanbe.

"The new centre will provide consultations on gender issues and help develop a gender curriculum," said Graziella Piga, Gender Officer in the OSCE Centre in Dushanbe.

"The project, co-sponsored with the Centre for Upgrading Qualification of Secondary School Teachers in Dushanbe and the NGO Oilai Ittifok, is part of the OSCE Centre's efforts to promote gender equality in Tajikistan."

Sixteen instructors, who have been trained to educate teachers in promoting gender awareness in secondary schools, received their certificates at the ceremony.
