Georgian Police Academy language centre supported by OSCE Mission to open
TBILISI, 6 March 2008 - A new English-language centre at the Police Academy will open on Friday following the renovation and provision of computers and textbooks, supported by the OSCE Mission to Georgia and the United States Embassy in Tbilisi.
The Mission assisted in the creation of the centre to enable Georgian police officers to learn English to improve their ability to participate in international missions, co-operate with their international counterparts and share professional experience.
The OSCE Mission is donating books and furniture to the centre under its Police Assistance Programme, which includes providing the Academy with training, equipment and advice.
The renovation works at the centre were funded by the U.S. Embassy, and the Mission supplied furniture, IT and communication equipment and library books worth 20,000 euros.
Journalists are invited to cover the official opening ceremony, which will take place at 4 p.m. on 7 March, in the Police Academy. The ceremony will be attended by representatives of the authorities and the international community.
