Assistance projects

The Forum for Security Co-operation is actively helping states, upon request, address their security concerns regarding surplus small arms and ammunition, deteriorating toxic rocket fuel and unexploded ordinance through a range of assistance programmes.

Tajikistan

The Forum for Security Co-operation has carried out an assessment and helped to destroy stockpiles of deteriorating surplus weapons and munitions left over from the Cold War era in the Dushanbe area. It now aims to expand the programme to other areas.

Belarus

A project in Belarus served as a pilot case for a new assistance mechanism developed by the FSC, aimed at providing assistance to participating States to address small arms and light weapons (SALW) stockpiles.

Ukraine

The FSC works with the Government of Ukraine to eliminate deteriorating toxic rocket fuel left over from the Cold War era and to rehabilitate areas contaminated by unexploded ordnance from an explosion caused by a fire in May 2004.

Kazakhstan

Approximately 1,500 tons of highly toxic rocket fuel, left over in Kazakhstan from the Cold War era, threatens public health and the environment. The FSC is working with the Government to dispose of the melange in an ecologically sound manner
