OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media to hold South East Europe media conference in Belgrade

BELGRADE, 18 September 2012 – The Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media will hold the second South East Europe Media Conference on 20 and 21 September in Belgrade.

The regional conference “Shaping Policy for the Future”, organized with the OSCE Mission to Serbia, will bring together some 200 international and regional journalists, media professionals and experts.

The participants will discuss issues affecting media freedom in South-Eastern Europe including state policies and law, business and corporate interests and fear of violence resulting in self-censorship. The debate will also focus on best practices and perspectives for regional media. 

The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Dunja Mijatović, and the Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, Paula Thiede, together with the Minister of Culture and Information, Bratislav Petković, the Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Vincent Degert,  and the Director of USAID for Serbia and Montenegro, Susan K Fritz, will open the conference. Prior to the conference, Mijatović will be on her first official visit to Serbia.

Media representatives are invited to attend the opening of the event on Thursday, 20 September 2012, at 09:00 at the Hotel Moskva, Terazije 20, Belgrade.

A press conference with the Representative will be held on 20 September 2012 at 12:45 at the Hotel Moskva.
