Based on the OSCE's comprehensive concept of security, the main objective of the Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities (OCEEA) is to promote economic and environmental co-operation among OSCE participating States and, when appropriate, their Asian and Mediterranean Partners.
Under the guidance of the Economic and Environmental Committee in Vienna, the OCEEA works closely with Economic and Environment Officers in OSCE field operations to identify, monitor and counteract economic and environmental threats and challenges to security and stability.
OCEEA activities include monitoring both economic and environmental developments, as well as helping to develop and implement policies and projects that promote security and co-operation in the OSCE region.
The OCEEA focuses its activities on the following areas:
-
Promoting good governance and helping participating States establish a positive business and investment climate.
-
Combating corruption, money laundering, the financing of terrorism, trafficking in human beings and other forms of transnational organized crime.
-
Fostering the establishment of effective migration policies in countries of origin and destination.
-
Fostering dialogue on energy security issues.
-
Encouraging participating States to enhance co-operation on secure and efficient transport networks.
-
Promoting sustainable development through increased public awareness and policy development on environmental security issues, including water management, land degradation, soil contamination and hazardous waste.
-
Developing the Environment and Security (ENVSEC) Initiative with other international organizations.
The OCEEA also organizes the Economic and Environmental Forum, which each year targets a major economic and/or environmental security issue.
