The 2011 OSCE Mediterranean Conference will focus on the topic of Democratic Transformation: Challenges and Opportunities in the Mediterranean region.

The events of the Arab Spring have demonstrated the aspiration held by the people of the Southern Mediterranean to live in free and democratic societies. Whether by means of gradual evolution or dramatic revolution, Mediterranean countries are responding to calls for change and we are witnessing a democratic transformation throughout the region.

Many OSCE participating States have themselves experienced this process, and the OSCE, with an impressive and comprehensive toolbox, has offered to support the Partner countries in their democratic transition.
