VIENNA, 10 June 2002 - Senior officials from the United Nations, NATO, the European Union and the Council of Europe, among other bodies, will meet on Wednesday at the invitation of the OSCE Chairmanship, to discuss coordinating international efforts in the fight against terrorism.
The one-day meeting, which will be held at the Hotel Tivoli in Lisbon on Wednesday, 12 June, will be opened by the Prime Minister of Portugal, the country which this year holds the Chairmanship of the OSCE. His opening address at 9:00 will be open to the press, as will the "family photo" opportunity at 12:45 and the subsequent press conference, scheduled for 18:30.
Antonio Martins da Cruz, the Portuguese Foreign Minister and current Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE, will moderate the first of several closed sessions. Among other organizations that are expected to participate in the meeting at high level are the International Committee of the Red Cross, the European Commission, the UN Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention and the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering.
The high-level representatives of international organizations will address co-operation in preventing and combating terrorism at the international level, as well as the promotion and protection of human rights and strengthening the rule of law.
