The President of the Court and the members of the Bureau are elected for a period of six years. In spring 2007, with the mandate of the Bureau due to expire in June the same year, elections were held in which the members of the Court voted for the President and the other members of the Bureau.
The result of the vote, held in writing, was that the following officials were elected to serve for a six-year term (until 2013):
President of the Court
Robert Badinter (France) was re-elected as President of the Court
Vice-President of the Court
Luzius Wildhaber (Switzerland) was elected Vice-President of the Court by the members of the Bureau at its meeting held on 7 March 2008 in Geneva.
Bureau of the Court
The following were elected to the Bureau of the Court from the list of conciliators:
Lucius Caflisch (Switzerland)
Luigi Ferrari Bravo (Italy)
Hans-Dietrich Genscher (Germany)
Anna Wyrozumska (Poland)
The following were elected to the Bureau of the Court from the list of arbitrators:
Benedetto Conforti (Italy)
Hans Ragnemalm (Sweden)
Luzius Wildhaber (Switzerland)
Günther Winkler (Austria)
