OSCE Acting Head emphasizes importance of inter-faith co-operation in long-term peace building

The Acting Head of OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nina Suomalainen, welcomed participants to the fourth Muslim-Jewish Conference, which opened on 1 July 2013 in Sarajevo. The conference aims to strengthen inter-faith dialogue, as well as to build trust and understanding between communities by bringing together over a hundred young leaders from 39 countries.

“Confidence and trust between all communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a multi-ethnic and multi-confessional country with all the challenges, opportunities and potential that such diversity brings, is vital to long-term stability and sustainable peace,” said Suomalainen.

“The conference’s commitment to promote dialogue, knowledge and openness as means to strengthen inter-faith relations is both commendable and needed,” added Suomalainen.

On July 4th, the participants will also visit Srebrenica, where they will be hosted by the OSCE Srebrenica Field Office. Ahead of the anniversary of the 11 July genocide, they will have a joint prayer and visit the Potocari memorial centre.
