BAKU, 26 August 2010 - The OSCE Office in Baku announced today a number of principles to help ensure equitable media coverage ahead of the November parliamentary elections, following discussions at a roundtable event with political parties earlier this week.
"I am pleased that the roundtable discussion on fair media coverage ahead of the forthcoming elections was able to support political dialogue, and I am grateful for the active involvement of the Government, Parliament, political parties, civil society and the international community," said Ambassador Bilge Cankorel, the Head of the OSCE Office in Baku.
The following four main recommendations emerged as a result of the discussions:
"The OSCE Office in Baku stands ready to assist with the realization of these conclusions, and will seek to support improvements in the media environment throughout the campaign period," said Cankorel.
