ALMATY, 27 November 2001 - The OSCE Centre in Almaty is co-organizing a regional seminar on "Globalization; Challenges and Threats to national Economies". The even will take place in Almaty, Kazakhstan on 6 and 7 December.
The main objective of the event will be to identify common economic problems in the era of globalization, and to find possible solutions that help minimizing risks. The problems concerning Kazakhstan's future membership in the World Trade Organization will be also discussed.
The event has been organized in close co-operation with the Economic Security Department of the Security Council, the Administration of the President of Kazakhstan, and the Kazakh Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Kazakhstan.
Representatives from other security councils in Central Asia as well from Russia, Poland and Chine are invited to attend the conference. It is expected that the Minister of Economy of Kazakhstan will participate. International experts from the World Trade Organization and the Economic Commission for Europe of the United Nations will contribute to the discussions held during the conference.
