This confernce will bring together some 60 parliamentarians, mayors from the country’s regions, officials from the National Economy, Finance and Justice Ministries, representatives of civil society and international organizations to review the results of the first phase of local self-governance reforms and discuss further steps of its development.
Experts from the OSCE Secretariat's Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities, Council of Europe and Mongolia will share international standards and recommendations in the area of local government, capacity-building tools for local authorities as well as provide practical examples of local self-governance reforms in Asia, South-Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus.
The event is organized by the OSCE Centre in Astana in close co-operation with Kazakhstan's Ministry of National Economy and the Soros-Kazakhstan Foundation. It is part of the Centre's work in promoting good governance and democratization in Kazakhstan.
