Property reform

Since 2003, the Property Reform Unit has been working closely with government institutions and the Assembly, providing expertise on restitution, compensation and registration of immovable property. The Unit assists the Government with the registration of immovable property, supporting the restitution and compensation process and facilitating relevant aspects of the legalization of informal constructions.

The Unit provides support and technical assistance to the three agencies responsible for these inter-related areas of property reform. It continues to monitor the implementation of property-related laws and provides the Government with reviews and comments on amendments to the law and new draft laws.

It also heads the Presence's work on mapping and registration, and co-ordinates these issues with the international donor community, helping to create a productive land market in the country.
