OSCE Presence in Albania
Electoral reform
The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights' (ODIHR's) final report on the July 2005 parliamentary elections acknowledged improvements in the Electoral Code. However, it also called for further revision and provided recommendations for problem areas.
The Electoral Reform Unit of the OSCE Presence in Albania supports the implementation of the ODIHR recommendations by the relevant Albanian authorities. Co-ordinating closely with the ODIHR, it provides the expertise sought by the respective Albanian institutions.
The Unit is also involved in planning and carrying out further reform of the legal framework for elections and voter registers, and it helps build the capacity of relevant national institutions (primarily the Assembly) and civil society actors in the electoral field.
